A Study Meeting on “Ariodante Fabretti in Turin at the end of the Nineteenth Century”

November the 24th 2000

A Study Meeting, organized by the Ariodante Fabretti Society, the Turin “Museo del Risorgimento”, and the Turin Cremation Society, was held in Turin to celebrate the figure of Ariodante Fabretti and his many-sided and lively cultural relations with Turin. Ariodante Fabretti was indeed a reference figure for the numerous initiatives that deeply influenced the cultural history of Turin during the last decades of the Nineteenth century.

He was, successively, Assistant in 1858, and then, in 1873, Director of the “Museo di Antichità” (Museum of Antiques), Professor of Archaeology at the Turin University (1860), Founder and President of the Turin Archaeological and Fine Arts Society (1882-1888 and 1891-1894), Headmaster of the School of Education  at the Arts and Philosophy Faculty of the Turin University (1880-1883), President of the Turin Academy of Science (1883-1886), Founder and President of the Turin Cremation Society (1883-1894), and Town Councillor in Turin (1887).
