CODES, INTERFACES AND RHIZOMIC PATHS OF ARTS - GUIDELINES OF THE RESEARCH GROUND IN VIEW OF THE THIRD EDITION OF ARSLAB EXHIBITION
Introduction
The multimedia and telematic turn is quickly spreading to the social and daily environment, thus adjourning the debate about parameters of production, politics, ethics and culture. This revolution will carry on with or without our traditional western culture, with or without art; hence a strong
cultural investment appears necessary to investigate the multiplicity of problems raised, the fall of values relating to territorialized societies, the exclusive management of knowledges, the unbalances between the entities and the subjects which are inside or outside the mutation, but also in order to outline new cultural values, new social beliefs that will help us to find a way out of the bewilderment and to "control" the transition.
Having always had the function to set the change, art must therefore take up this new challenge and place itself within the mutation process in an operational and substantial manner, facing the risks related thereof.
We must outline and then build a new socially shareable vision of the world, a new symbolic economy capable of introducing sensibility and real human needs into the globalized communication.
These are the premises for the research work regarding the project of ARSLAB 3; this project refers to the cultural formulation put forward by an entire new artistic area that is partially but significantly documented by previous editions, which are now being supported by some trends of contemporary art.
The research related to ARSLAB 3 is expected to go deep inside the essence
of art; it will not take into account those artworks that give nothing but simple suggestions or fragmentary intuitions, on the contrary the research will develop the theoretical basis of the new artistic "writing" consubstantial to the technological media. Therefore, the research programme consists of a correlated series of communcative events, which will be connected in the net to the future Web of Arslab Committee. The first phase foresees a series of workshops with artists: the first three meetings will
be held in Paris, Bonn and Milan. The second phase will be the occasion of
an international symposium in Turin, where there will be performances and connections in the net. Finally, the third phase will consist of the exhibiton in Turin, that will display the scenic dimension of the new artistic production. There will be a limited number of artworks, some of which will be co-produced with the authors. The main features of this investigation will be: codes, interfaces and "rhizomic" contents of contemporary artistic research.
