Dear friends,
In the past two days, under heavy bombardment in the Belgrade capitol of
Yugoslavia international round ñtable ìEurope at the Cross-roadsî with 22
participants from 12 different countries. This is joint statement of these
well-known historians addressed to the intellectuals worldwide. More
informations on this round table You can find at our web-site www.aic.org.yu
, or You can e-mail us at editor@barw.org.yu for further informations.
We, the participants in the international round-table ìEurope at the
Cross-roadsî, coming from a number of countries and sharing different
political philosophies, join in expressing our horror at the war now being
waged against the Serbian people as a whole, by an unholy alliance of the
USA and NATO, with their own particular axe to grind.
Men, women and children are being killed the essentials of life destroyed,
all in the name of peace. And we remember that this is not the first time
that the Serbs have suffered.
Many of us supported US policies when they were designed through NATO to
help defend Europe against aggression or the threat of aggression. That
threat has now passed. However, the Americans now seem bent on establishing
their hegemony in Europe through armed force, economic, ideological and
diplomatic pressure.
NATOís original defensive purpose has been violently changed to assertion of
its own credibility, as an end in itself, to be paid through Serbian blood
and the eradication of all-international legal norms and mechanisms.
The scale and ferocity of the attack and its illegal basis show that this
aggression will not stop with Serbia.
If this assault succeeds against Serbia, Europe will became a collection of
stateliest, dominated by the US, reviving old territorial and ethnic feuds,
replacing diplomacy and reason with gun-ships and bombers.
Having seen with our own eyes the suffering inflicted upon the Srebian
people, we call for an end to this new imperialism under Tomahawk law, and a
return to the established norms of behavior before irreparable moral and
physical harm is done.

Sincerely Yours,
